Win a trip to Space Camp
Metro has teamed up with Space School UK to give teenagers aged 13-15 years the chance to win a place at space school this summer. The camp runs from August 5-10 and the prize includes food, accommodation and a host of fun and educational activities…
The problem
The year is 2025 and man has returned to the Moon and established the first lunar base. The base is home to lunanauts who live there for months at a time conducting experiments on the lunar surface and generally struggling to live in this inhospitable environment. In fact, life on the moon is tougher than anyone imagined and the lunanauts have sent an urgent message back to Earth asking for help.
Unfortunately, the science boffins at all the major space agencies are down with a rare type of flu that targets only people wearing white coats. But something must be done to help the lunar outpost so it is up to you to save them!
What can you do?
Find three science genius’ aged 13-15 and invent something to help the lunar base out. It could be a device that makes their everyday lives a little easier, or an experiment that will help them to better understand how the Moon works. You can design anything that could be used by someone living on the Moon.
What’s the prize?
The teams that come up with the most original and practical design will get to spend five days at Space School UK in Leicester. You will spend the week learning about astronomy and space science from experts as well as taking part in the following great activities:
Scuba diving: You will be trained how to scuba dive and get to learn all about buoyancy and weightlessness. Then you be set the challenge of building a satellite underwater.
Rocket building: You get to build a working rocket from scratch and at the end of the week you will launch your rocket with the best one winning a prize.
Days out: You will spend a day at the National Space Centre where you will ride simulators, take command of mission control.and even get to train like a real astronaut You will also visit the labs of the UK’s largest satellite builder where you will learn all about satellites and even get the chance to design your own. At the planetarium you will get to the telescopes and photograph the stars and planets.
Relax: All of your food and accommodation is included in the prize and at the end of the week you will get to let your hair down at a BBQ and disco.
